Jon joined A J Park in 2007 and is based in our Wellington office. Jon specialises in patent and related intellectual property law for biotechnology and molecular biology innovations.

Jon has expertise in a range of technology areas including molecular biology, biotechnology, cellular biology, microbiology and marine biology.

Jon has extensive research and teaching experience at several United States institutions. He has been involved in molecular biology and microbiology teaching and research projects for the University of Massachusetts, the University of California, NASA Astrobiology and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Jon has experience with international patent systems as an examiner with the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office. He has also worked as an examiner for the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand.

On a daily basis, Jon:

• conducts patentability and freedom to operate searches
• advises on patent validity and infringement
• files and prosecutes patent applications.

Jon has an MS in microbial evolution from the University of Massachusetts and a PhD in molecular marine biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
