Mike first joined A J Park in 1982 and became a partner in 1990. He remained as a partner until 1997 when he joined the partnership of another national law firm. In 1999, Mike joined with Greg West-Walker to found the firm West-Walker Bennett. When West-Walker Bennett merged with A J Park in 2000, Mike retired from practice as a patent attorney.
Mike re-joined A J Park as a consultant in January 2005, based in Auckland. During the intervening period, Mike provided part-time patent and general counsel services as consultant to US biotechnology company Tercica Inc. (from start-up through to IPO and NASDAQ listing in 2004) and has been a director of Dunedin-based venture capital firm, Quest VC Limited.
Mike advises on technology commercialisation and provides strategic patenting advice in the context of the commercialisation process, particularly in the life sciences field. He also understands the venture capital process and has significant experience in conducting due diligence investigations on behalf of prospective investors in technology.
