Sue is a patent law specialist, with particular expertise in pharmaceuticals, chemistry and food technology.
Sue represents the New Zealand patent interests of both local companies and research organisations and major overseas pharmaceutical companies.
Before Sue became a patent attorney, she worked as a scientist for the Wheat Research Institute and the Industrial Processing Division of the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Sue is part of the Auckland office patents team and is responsible for work for the firm's major pharmaceutical clients. In this role, Sue
- advises on patentability;
- carries out patentability and freedom to use searches;
- prepares patent specifications for local clients;
- files and prosecutes local and international patent applications for local clients and on behalf of overseas clients;
- advises and acts on patent opposition proceedings;
- advises and acts on patent infringement issues.
Sue is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). She is also a member of the Auckland District Law Society.
