Michael specialises in patents, designs, copyright and related intellectual property law for industrial design. Michael is primarily involved in securing overseas patent protection for New Zealand manufacturers.
Michael has experience with a range of technologies including furniture, mechanical engineering, aeronautic and marine, optics and electromagnetic systems and veterinary and medical devices. He also works with manufacturing, processing and packaging equipment particularly in the food and engineering industries.
Michael works for leading New Zealand and overseas innovators. His clients include Formway Furniture Limited, University of Otago, Shuttleworth Axial Motor Company Limited, and Armour Transport Technology Limited.
Recently, Michael has been involved in securing patent protection for a number of New Zealand companies looking to export their products overseas. He has also advised on matters relating to international product commercialisation.
Michael also regularly:
- advises on patentability and design registrability;
- conducts infringement and freedom to operate assessments;
- conducts patent and design searches;
- prepares and prosecutes patent applications, both locally and internationally;
- prepares and prosecutes design applications, both locally and internationally;
- advises on copyright in industrial design, including enforcement;
- conducts patent portfolio due diligence and intellectual property audits.
Michael is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys (NZIPA), and an Australian Registered Patent Attorney.
