Damon advises on the protection, maintenance, exploitation and enforcement of trade marks and other intellectual property rights both in New Zealand and internationally.

He acts for many well-known New Zealand and international corporations in a range of industries, including apparel, food and beverage manufacturing, telecommunications, technology, pharmaceuticals, banking, insurance, education and entertainment.

Damon's extensive practice involves both contentious and non-contentious work, including:

  • trade mark selection and clearance;
  • prosecution of trade mark applications;
  • local and international client trade mark portfolio management;
  • strategic input for local and overseas branding programmes;
  • IP audits;
  • trade mark opposition, revocation and enforcement actions;
  • domain name protection and dispute resolutions;
  • anti-counterfeiting practice including Customs procedures;
  • compliance programmes for avoiding brand genericism;
  • food and beverage labeling.


Damon has a particular interest in the food and beverage sector and has a strong track record helping food and beverage companies to protect and leverage their brands in New Zealand and internationally.  He advises on branding issues associated with exporting, food labelling and other compliance advice, as well as helping clients with the branding of clean technologies.  He has a practical understanding of issues facing food and beverage manufacturers.

Damon is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys (NZIPA), a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ) and a member of the Auckland District Law Society.

Damon is also current President of the British New Zealand Trade Council Inc.
