Humphrey joined A J Park in 2002, and specialises in biotechnology and life sciences inventions.
Humphrey protects the innovations of a number of New Zealand biotechnology companies, tertiary research organizations and Crown Research Institutes in the biotechnological, pharmaceutical, agbiotech and horticultural research sectors. Humphrey also assists a number of overseas biotech organizations with patent protection in New Zealand.
Before joining the patent profession, Humphrey had five years academic research experience. He also had a further three years of commercial research experience. Humphrey worked as a project leader for New Zealand's largest biotechnology company and did post-doctoral research in internationally acclaimed laboratories in the United States and United Kingdom.
Humphrey's experience with the patenting process from an inventor's perspective gives him a unique advantage when protecting our clients' inventions.
Humphrey's work as a patent attorney includes:
- drafting patent specifications
- filling and prosecuting patent applications internationally
- advising on patent filing strategies
- providing patentability and freedom to operate opinions
- advising on patent validity and infringement
- preparing oppositions and providing litigation support.
Humphrey is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys and a member of the New Zealand Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
